Week 12

This was it! My last week at my internship! I cannot believe that it's already been three months! Time flew! And to think how much I have learned in these short months compared to how much I learn on a regular school year back home. It's amazing how much jumping off a cliff out of your comfort zone does for you :D

Anyway, I was right about my last week in my internship: I did have to continue working on projects as if nothing was happening, as if I was going to continue coming back. There was no wrap up mini session just a submission of my last assignment and a cordial good bye. It was neat to see how, like the saying in show business goes, the show must go on. And it did! In my past experiences working there is always a small good bye party or at least small parting gifts. This was a fresh difference to what I was expecting. We are all here to work and work we must :)

My last assignment for my internship was to go back through the project that I was put in charge of a couple months back. The client had received the presentation that I had prepared and would like to hire the company I am interning for. So now I was to go through the same presentation that was prepared and add items and suggestions the client had wanted when it was presented to them. This client wanted to not only work on the company's brand reputation and engagement, but also internal communication. Thus, I has to go through the presentation and add/apply internal communication to the rest and still have it flow. Then I was to come up with example questions of some that the employees of the client might have in order to prepare to answer them. This took quite a bit of time since I do not know what it is like to work for their company. But once again through brainstorming and with Erica's help, I was able to succeed and achieve what was expected of me.

And that was it. My three months experience ended. It was a bitter sweet moment because on one hand I had had a great time learning from all of  these great people but on the other hand I will not be missing the super long commute there and back. It'll be nice to not have to come in next week and have more time to sleep, rest, and study (something I've been greatly missing this entire semester). But the good overshadows the little hardships of this experience, so thank you! It's been real!

Week Four

This past week at my internship was a great learning experience. I had the chance to have breakfast with everyone in the office on Wednesday morning. Despite my limited Italian, I was able to get to know everyone in the office better as well as connect with them in a less official setting. I am looking forward to more of these types of mini events within the office . Another great learning experience for me this past week was that for the first time since I started this internship, I was asked to partake in the "real" consulting work that they do. I was put in charge of a program. I was to analyse the data they had collected (with the help of Erica, a full time employee who has done this type of work countless time before). I was to analyse the data and brainstorm solutions to the problems the company that had hired the consulting company I am interning for. Once I had come up with some solutions, I shared them with Erica who have me her notes and together we compiled a ...

Week Five

After having been MIA due to bronchitis last week, I returned to my internship to find that they had waited for me to return in order to continue on the project I had been a part of. This made me feel very proud because it showed that I was in fact part of the team and that my presence made a difference. This was an unexpected feeling because when I began the internship I mistakenly believed as if they were doing my university a favor by allowing me to be there. As if my presence was almost an inconvenience for them because I'd slow them down. Obviously, I was mistaken and coming back to them having waited for me was appreciated it. This week my duties involved  going through a PowerPoint and making it "sexier" (that was the word Erica used when she asked for my help).  She wanted me to make her presentation more modern and appealing. I went through every slide and changed the type of animation (the kind she had was too crazy and distracting). I also switched up the co...
