This week, my boss was not in the entire week. Thus, I did everything with and through Erica. She mentioned that the infograph that I had done for last week's assignment was a good start but that our boss' boss wanted to make it one congruent visual graph than four separate ones. So, this was my assignment for the week, figure out how to synthesize four fountains of information into one.
Thankfully, our boss' boss had a concrete example of what he wanted. This made things a lot easier but it was still difficult to transpose the information about level of executives, money spent on the program, the degree of change that the client had, and the success of the program. The example our boss' boss had given us was in relationship to tree leaves and their abundance during the different seasons. That is why the example helped piece together what the infograph should LOOK like but it did not help at all in how to arrange the content within the graph.
After brainstorming and asking questions to Erica, I concluded that the best way to represent level of executive was by roman numerals; the money spent would be represented via different colors; the degree of change would be represented by different shapes; and the success of the program would be represented by a degree of smiling faces to frowny faces. After this was all set and done, Erica was very pleased with the result and so was our boss' boss. This made me feel very accomplished :) and it made me realize how if I would have asked more questions last week, I wouldn't have had to do that other entire project that then got discarded. So once again, I shouldn't assume that I fully understood what was asked of me and to ask for a tangible example before hand. This is something I will definitely apply to the rest of my school and career work.
It continues to impress me how easy it is for things to go up and down the chain of command. Since there is a chain but it's not so traditional there isn't as much bureaucracy, so things can get done much smoother and quicker. Next week will be my last week and that makes me sad :( But I do expect it to be like any other week where I simply continue to work on projects until it's time to leave.
